Evolution is driven by mutation and natural selection, while metamorphosis is genetically programmed in every nondefective individual to take place at a certain point in development. The key difference between the two phenomena is that significant evolution occurs over a far longer period of time than metamorphosis (we're talking hundreds of thousands or millions of years, probably more). The long story is actually that what they call "evolution" in the Pokemon franchise is much more similar to metamorphosis than evolution. Both are mammals, but they are clearly not the same species.Ģ. Take, for example, a dog versus a sperm whale. Just because two organisms are both mammals does not in any way mean they are part of the same species. Humans and Chimps are NOT in the same species. Therefore all Pokemon should be considered of the same species, from a scientific aspect, as one defining trait of a species is to be able to reproduce and exchange genetic information between nondefective individuals within the species.ġ.
In Pokemon, all Pokemon can breed with all other Pokemon (correct me if I'm wrong) as long as they are of different sex. More similar to Chimps and Humans would be two different Eevee evolutions, as they both evolved from a common ancestor, which in this case would be Eevee.ģ. Science says chimps and humans are from a common ancestor, not that one evolved from another (hence they both exist in the same time period).
You stated that Humans are just evolved Chimps. The relation between Raichu and Pikachu cannot be compared to Chimps and Humans (why you are capitalizing the names I do not know, but that's a different story). They can be in the same family but different species.Ģ. Family is a broader classification than species, and so two things cannot be in the same species but in different families.
